Replacing old or broken mirror closet doors
Cracked mirror, a bent frame, doors that jump the track or never quite fit: a new kit in the size that fits your opening comes with new top and bottom tracks and the fascia, so you start fresh.
Cracked mirror, a bent frame, doors that jump the track or never quite fit: when the doors themselves are the problem, the simplest fix is a new set. A Buildr Home kit is the panels plus a new top track, a new bottom track and the fascia, in the size that fits your opening. Mirror kits start at the price shown on the design page for a 2-panel framed white door on a 72 by 80 inch opening.
Fix the rollers, or replace the set?
Usually a repair
- A door that drags, sticks or jumps the track: worn or dirty rollers, a dented track.
- A door that rattles or is hard to slide: clean the track and adjust the rollers. Our off-track guide walks through it.
Replace the doors
- The mirror is cracked, chipped or the backing is peeling.
- The frame is bent, loose or won't hold the mirror square.
- The doors were cut for a different size and never fit the opening.
- The tracks are worn or bent, so new rollers would not last either.
- You want to change the look: mirror to panel, framed to frameless, or a new frame colour.
Buildr Home sells complete kits, not loose rollers or parts. If it is only a roller or a track, a replacement part from the hardware maker usually fixes it. If it is the doors, a new kit is the next step. Old mirror doors are heavy and the glass can break, so take them out with a second person.
Measure the opening, not the old door
With the old doors and tracks out of the way, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and the height at the left, middle and right, use the smallest of each, and type what the tape says. Old doors were often cut down or shimmed, and the frame may have moved since. The measuring guide has the detail.
What you pick up
The mirror panels, a new top track, a new bottom track and the fascia, in the size that fits the opening you entered. You do not reuse any of the old hardware.
Mirror options
Framed in white or black, or frameless in white, silver or black, in 2 to 5 panels. The mirror is always clear, with a safety film on the back that holds the glass together if it breaks. The frame colour and frameless change the price a little, and the design page shows the exact number as you choose.
Need the old doors taken out?
We don't install, but we can connect you with an independent installer in the GTA who removes the old doors and fits the new ones.
Questions
Can I fix a mirror closet door that came off the track?
Often, yes. A door that jumps or drags is usually a worn roller, a dirty or dented track, or a roller that needs adjusting, and that is a repair, not a new door. Lift the door out with a second person, clean the track and check the rollers. If the track is bent, the rollers are broken, or the door keeps coming off, replacing the whole set is the longer-lasting fix.
When should I replace mirror closet doors instead of repairing them?
Replace when the mirror is cracked or chipped, the frame is bent or loose, the doors do not fit the opening any more, or the tracks are worn out. A cracked mirror is a safety problem and not worth repairing.
Do I measure the old doors or the opening?
The opening. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and the height at the left, middle and right, use the smallest of each, and enter it in inches.
Is the track included with the replacement doors?
Yes. A kit is the door panels, a new top track, a new bottom track and the fascia. Nothing is sold apart, and you do not reuse the old track.
How much does mirror closet door replacement cost?
It depends on your opening and the frame you pick. Type your width and height on the design page and the exact price shows before you pay. How the price is made up.
How fast can I get replacement mirror doors?
Ready for pickup in about 2 business days after payment, with the date shown before you pay. Buildr Home is pickup only.
Do you remove the old doors and install the new ones?
No. You pick up the kit. We can connect you with an independent installer in the GTA who removes the old doors and fits the new ones.
